OUR PROCESS
DESIGN
Our design process started in 2019. Sketchbooks filled with hope, made way for road trips to Barrydale, Touwsrivier and Tulbagh. There we learnt as we went along our journey. Foreign concepts became common knowledge and dead ends turned into open doors.

There were many twists and turns, but we never wavered on our vision. Our long journey brought us here- to a point in time where we can proudly bring our Jordaan Vellie to South Africa, and the world.

The traditional veldskoen has a high top-line. Ours meets the ankle perfectly in the middle and the supple leather is gentle on the achilles- no need to worry about a breaking-in period.
​
Our leather lines are clean as our leather is cut with cast-iron blades specially manufactured for our shoes and our laces are tailored.
​
The special ‘rugby-mannetjie’ is laser-printed, giving it a distinct texture and unique look.

Together they make our Jordaan Vellies shoe. Each made with meticulous care by our manufacturing team, a small operation run from a garage in the Cape Flats.

It was important to our founders that we found and embraced small businesses in our community. Being a small business ourselves, we found strength and support in our fellow burgeoning entrepreneurs - like-minded creators - who, like us, put all their love into what they do.
SELECTION
The leather we use for our Jordaan Vellies shoes is carefully selected. Through many visits to tanneries and wholesalers we finally came across a leather that our team immediately knew would be the perfect fit for our brand.

Each skin is studied and procured to ensure that you, as the consumer, are getting the best version of our product.

Our ‘Founder’ Vellie has a hue reminiscent of autumn evenings when the sun starts setting. It has a rich caramel tone with hints of earthy brown and sultry bronze. It is more than just a colour. It’s an experience- sweet, light and enigmatic.
CRAFTSMANSHIP
At Jordaan Vellies, we value craftsmanship above all. Our team of skilled artisans use traditional techniques to craft each shoe by hand. Our final products are also inspected at each stage of the production process to ensure each shoe we produce is of the highest quality.
